How to decrease Hair Store Cart Abandonment and make more sales

While your visitors browse through your hair and beauty store, they can add the products they like to the shopping cart. This is the first step for your clients to getting the hair they like. When they shop instore, they hold the hair pieces in their hands or shopping cart. In a way, it is theirs. But when shopping hair online, your client adds the hair to the cart, and they only see on the top of their screen the products in the cart. Sometimes the amount or the number of items. How fast are you?

Customers are more and more used to next day, or even same day delivery. Sometimes they decide short for the weekend the hair they prefer and want the hair the next day. How are you organized? Do you have enough stock at hand to make that work? If ordered before 1 pm, the next day delivery possible? If the client feels she must wait too long, she will switch to other suppliers of her hair.

A successful sale starts with the ideal client. Who is the person you want to solve their hair needs? The same goes for the hair stylists. In preparation for the ideal client profile, or the sales script you can have some chats with hair stylists. Make an appointment if you feel shy to just have a talk. And talk about the pros and cons of the hair stylist job. Learn what her or his pain points are, and the kind of solutions they are looking for.
You will leave their salon not only with gorgeous, styled hair, you will also be a smarter and wiser salesperson!

What is in it for the hair stylist?

When you succeed to tell the hair stylist, a couple of benefits your service and hair pieces will bring them, the talk will be much easier. When you can make clear what is in it for the hair stylist, they will help to find more potential problems where you can bring a solution for. Be prepared for these other problems. Share your view, do not over promise but show you are committed to help them.

What are the pain points of a hair stylist?

You know the pain points they face, and now with every new conversation with a hair stylist you will learn more pain points. Use your experience with the sales calls to improve your product offering. Ask questions about the pain points. This will broaden your knowledge about the challenge’s hair stylist face. Make sure you take note of everything and think about the solutions you can offer.

They feel they can share their ideas with this stranger (you) who really tries to understand them and to find solutions. Let them ask questions, make them feel heard.

Build in questions that will help you to understand the hair stylist. Repeat what the hair stylist just told you. This will show the stylist you really listen and that you really want to understand their story. You are interested in them. When they reply they even might bring up new topics, and this keep the conversation going.

Set a clear call to action

Make sure there is a follow up at the end of the call. Ask for a new call to talk more in depth. Or try to arrange for a sample order, or a visit to their salon to have a talk. Try to avoid leaving the initiative with the hair stylist, keep the conversation going!

The moment you receive the mail from your webstore backend, like WooCommerce or Shopify about a new order, you feel things are going the right way. Everything comes together.
Unless….

Why imposters want to buy from you?

You check the email, and login into the backend of the webstore. The part where you manage the new products, the payment settings and client orders. You see that “Nabeela Aslam” purchased some of your hair bundles. Nice, you do not know him or her yet, but it sounds good. You see Nabeela is willing to pay a high shipping fee, because this client lives in Pakistan. That is odd, one bundle of hair and a high shipping fee. You also see Nabeela has used the spread payment options. She, or he, is not paying in one term, but prefers to pay using one of your payment providers.

Well, if they pay, who cares. And you turn around to prepare a cup of coffee. This calls for a celebration. But the moment you want to take the first zip, you get a new mail. Nabeela was using your good name at the credit card company, to get a short-term credit. There was no interest in your Brazilian hair, but Nabeele was trying to get a financial benefit from you. Of course, it was a suspicious order, from Pakistan only one bundle of hair. Nabeela nearly spoiled your name with the credit card company!

How to avoid abuse of your store

Although it is great to sell hair to the whole world. It is better to focus. A focused growth means you keep an eye on your audience. Who is your ideal client, what does she, or he need and how she engages with your store? It is clear Nabeela from Pakistan was not your ideal client. He, or she, was clearly not a good client for you.

To avoid any future abuse, you can restrict the shipping locations. Restrict the countries you sell to. Avoid people from countries that are fare away and will hardly be your serious client, to order hair. Read how to change your settings and to protect your name for Shopify or WooCommerce.

Selling restrictions in Shopify

In Shopify, go to the Settings. Select Shipping and delivery.
Here you will be able to set up shipping parameters for all countries. To exclude a country, or more make a Parameter for the region and just not select that country (or countries).

Click on the “…” after the region, this will open, with “edit zone and delete” a menu with all countries and the flag will show. Now simply deselect the countries you prefer not to sell to.

Selling restrictions in WooCommerce

Go to the backend of your WordPress site and on the left side menu look for WooCommerce. There you look for the menu option “Settings”.
Click on settings and you will see some tabs. The fist tab is “General”., followed by “Products”, “Tax” etc. You can select the first tab, “General”.

Under general you will see Store Address followed by some option and General options.
Here you can select the countries you want to sell to, or you can opt to sell to all countries, except. Here you can add the names of the countries you do not want to sell to.

Now you have protected your business
