Today, we all feel the pressure of the Coronavirus on our society, our business, our grandparents and of course on our kids. We need his support more then ever. This virus, it makes us doubt about a lot of things. How to make sure your kids will get the right education when they can’t go to school, how to comfort your sick grandmother but keep a safe distance at the same time?

At the very same time you have to think on how to earn money, how to make sure there is food on the table or a roof above your head.

This is the moment you must open all your senses. Your eyes, your ears and your noise to inhale the support others can give you. To fight the Coronavirus all you need to do is to keep on having your faith in the LORD and to be there for others.

We all can fight COVID-19

Coronavirus or COVID-19, what’s in a name? You can fight this virus be showing interest in others. Listen to their stories, ask them how they are doing. Sometimes you opt to make a phone call, or you talk to them at a safe distance. Chat with them and tell them you care. We human beings need the attention of others. Most of us will understand, because of the virus, you can not hug them or shake hands. It is very difficult to write a rain check when you feel you must embrace the other.

But the good thing is, all over the world we see people who genuinely care for each other and who make sure we all can fight the Coronavirus.

Because of that, I will help you to fight Covid-19, I will pray for you and your loves ones. I will pray to make sure you are okay; you will stay safe and healthy. I will pray if you feel sick, you will feel the comfort people care about you. Even if they are very far away.

It is not 1,5 meter or 2 meter distance that keeps us apart, it is the love and care for each other as humans that will hold us together.

Where does the Coronavirus comes from and how does it spread?

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are common in many different species of animals, including camels, cattle, cats, and bats. Risk Assessment to avoid you get COVID-19

Outbreaks of novel virus infections among people are always of public health concern. Widespread transmission of COVID-19 in the United States would translate into large numbers of people needing medical care at the same time. Schools, childcare centers, workplaces, and other places for mass gatherings may experience more absenteeism. Public health and healthcare systems may become overloaded, with elevated rates of hospitalizations and deaths. Other critical infrastructure, such as law enforcement, emergency medical services, and transportation industry may also be affected. Health care providers and hospitals may be overwhelmed.

No vaccine to protect against Coronavirus

At this time, there is no vaccine to protect against COVID-19 and no medications approved to treat it. Nonpharmaceutical interventions would be the most important response strategy.

CDC Recommends

While the immediate risk of this new virus to the American public is believed to be low at this time, everyone can do their part to help us respond to this emerging public health threat:

  • It’s currently flu and respiratory disease season and CDC recommends getting a flu vaccine, taking everyday preventive actions to help stop the spread of germs, and taking flu antivirals if prescribed.
  • If you are a healthcare provider, be on the look-out for people who recently traveled from China and have fever and respiratory symptoms.
  • If you are a healthcare provider caring for a COVID-19 patient or a public health responder, please take care of yourself and follow recommended infection control procedures.
  • If you have been in China or have been exposed to someone sick with COVID-19 in the last 14 days, you will face some limitations on your movement and activity. Please follow instructions during this time. Your cooperation is integral to the ongoing public health response to try to slow spread of this virus. If you develop COVID-19 symptoms, contact your healthcare provider, and tell them about your symptoms and your travel or exposure to a COVID-19 patient.

For people who are ill with COVID-19, please follow CDC guidance on how to reduce the risk of spreading your illness to others.

How COVID-19 Spreads

Current understanding about how the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spreads is largely based on what is known about similar coronaviruses.

Person-to-person spread

The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person.

Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet)
Via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

Spread from contact with infected surfaces or objects

It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.

When does spread happen?

People are thought to be most contagious when they are most symptomatic (the sickest).

Still there are many questions about how the coronavirus or COVID-19 is spreading. The virus seems to use bathroom pipes in Hong Kong to spread through a building and to infect the neighbors. This condition is different from spreading through a dry surface, like the packaging of hair. Or the hair itself.

The safe way to open a new order of hair.

Based upon the intelligence of the WHO, it is safe to order hair and to touch the packaging without the risk to get sick. But to play safe one can decide to, cleanse the surface of the packaging with a disinfectant and to wait a day before you open the package. In this time the virus will not be active anymore and you can enjoy your new arrival. Consider the hair has been shipped and thus the virus has been on a dry surface for some time already. An extra day plus the cleansing (of the packaging) should give extra comfort. This information you can pass through to your clients.

How to protect yourself and your clients for COVID-19?

Wash your hands frequently

Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub if your hands are not visibly dirty.

Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub eliminates the virus if it is on your hands.

Practice respiratory hygiene

When coughing and sneezing, cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue – discard tissue immediately into a closed bin and clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.

Why? Covering your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing prevent the spread of germs and viruses. If you sneeze or cough into your hands, you may contaminate objects or people that you touch.

Maintain social distancing

Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and other people, particularly those who are coughing, sneezing and have a fever.

Why? When someone who is infected with a respiratory disease, like 2019-nCoV, coughs or sneezes they project small droplets containing the virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the virus.

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth

Why? Hands touch many surfaces which can be contaminated with the virus. If you touch your eyes, nose or mouth with your contaminated hands, you can transfer the virus from the surface to yourself.

If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early

Tell your health care provider if you have traveled in an area in China where 2019-nCoV has been reported, or if you have been in close contact with someone with who has traveled from China and has respiratory symptoms.

Why? Whenever you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing it’s important to seek medical attention promptly as this may be due to a respiratory infection or other serious condition. Respiratory symptoms with fever can have a range of causes, and depending on your personal travel history and circumstances, COVID-19 could be one of them.

Practice general hygiene measures

As a general precaution, practice general hygiene measures when visiting live animal markets, wet markets or animal product markets.

Ensure regular hand washing with soap and potable water after touching animals and animal products; avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth with hands; and avoid contact with sick animals or spoiled animal products. Strictly avoid any contact with other animals in the market (e.g., stray cats and dogs, rodents, birds, bats). Avoid contact with potentially contaminated animal waste or fluids on the soil or structures of shops and market facilities.

Avoid consumption of raw or undercooked animal products

Handle raw meat, milk or animal organs with care, to avoid cross-contamination with uncooked foods, as per good food safety practices.

It started with an app, on a Monday morning. Blessingfearless told me she was ready to start selling hair in Nigeria. She found a great business opportunity that will change the hair market in Nigeria for ever. But she needed a husband to get the capital!

Because that is the way it goes in Nigeria. Men get loans and women must beg. You can have a splendid idea, but if your gender is not male, too bad girl!

But Blessingfearless, as you can see on her Instagram account is full of passion. She really made me fall for the idea too. I wanted to help her, with or without a husband!

The fact is if you want to start selling hair in Nigeria, women are second in line compared to men. The World Bank is fully aware of this. They started to develop programs to support women because Africa will only see major improvement if African women are empowered.

So, I started my quest for capital to help Blessingfearless finding a husband. Sorry, I mean finding a loan.

Why would someone need a husband to start selling hair?

“There is growing global evidence that shows that ensuring economic opportunities for women is an important entry point for addressing gender inequality and ensuring better education, health, and nutrition outcomes for families”. This sentence, in a report of the World Bank, tells the male part of the world that by empowering women the only way up for many areas in the World.

Imagine, the growth of the total economy in Nigeria, that is now around 2.1 percent for, could have been 3.3 percent if gender equality would have been reached. This means the Nigerian economy would grow faster than the US economy under Trump or Obama!

To reach this equality between the sexes quite some regulation has or had to change. Some examples are the law on prohibition of inhumane treatment of widows (2001) in Edo state and the Child Rights Act 2003 in Ogun. As small producers and asset holders, Nigerian women have greater difficulty reaching economies of scale, which affects their competitiveness. In other words, Nigerian female entrepreneurs face a lot of difficulties to grow their business. As a result, they have limited bargaining power with suppliers and buyers, restricting their ability to earn profits.

Through the Nigeria for Women Project, a project initiated by the World Bank, 324,000 women will benefit through investments in comprehensive skills training, the leverage of financial and technical resources, and support to policy dialogue on women’s economic empowerment.

This first World Bank-assisted standalone gender operation in Nigeria was approved in June 2018. This also created and strengthen Women Affinity Groups to facilitate social networks and increase women’s voice and participation in the economy.

How to start an online beauty supply store

This week I launched the first HowToSellHairExtensions Shopify Webstore, On my portfolio page you can see more web stores I designed. The idea was to design for you an easy to use, low cost, professional hair webstore. Dream of Extensions has all you need to start selling hair in Shopify, and to make money the day of the launch.

Theme – the decoration

I started with the Mission Statement of Dream of Extensions. This helps to get a clear picture of the kind of clients we want to sell hair to.

  • what are their needs?
  • what do they like and not like?
  • where do they shop?
  • how much they want to pay?

For this I used The Ideal Client template this assisted me to focus on the people in need of my hair and how to find them. These ideas helped us also to create the name and logo for our webstore. The logo of Dream of Extensions was created using to Hatchful. I selected the kind of business and the type of logo we wanted.

You like the logo? Next to the diamond it was the pink color that made me decide to go for it. Later you will read how amazing it was I selected this color. I used the colors for the background of the webstore. In a way it was the wallpaper of the webstore. For the expressions, I copied the same color of the text of the logo. Did you know, if you want to know the color of any object on an image, you can use a free app like paint. This program has a color picker, that translates any color into the RGB code (255, 255, 255). This is a color code you can use to find the same color in Power Point or any website design program, Like Shopify for example. RGB stands for the basic colors Red, Green and Blue.

Preparation before selling hair on Shopify

Before I started to design the webstore, I prepared the images and the text. Selling hair on Shopify is only possible with great and copyright free images. The images of the products of course, but also illustrations that tell the story behind the journey of the founder to start selling hair. I created a map on my workstation to store the product images, one for the other images and a map for the text. The latter would contain the text of the legal stuff, like:

  • terms and conditions,
  • refund and
  • privacy policy.

All in Word, so I can copy paste the text later without any interruption in the Shopify hair store.

Save time uploading the description of your hair and wigs

It is great if you have a lot of hair to sell, especially with a lot of varieties. The only problem is to record all this in your Shopify hair store. I can tell that is one of the most boring and energy consuming tasks to perform being a store owner. To manually upload your products in your Shopify dream store!

My goals are to make sure you keep on having fun selling hair, so I prepared an easy solution to upload many hair extensions, wigs and braids. I created a template in Excel where you can easily enter all the data about your products. You only must type any items once, and if needed you can copy paste the text or even skip. Please take a note so you do not forget to ask me for the template at the end of this post.

The upload of the hair of Dream of Extensions was done very fast, so thanks to the template the boring stuff did not bother me that much. It was no problem to have many variations in color, length or texture. The great thing is your clients will have so many options, hard to believe their choice will not be in your store!

Terms and conditions and other dull stuff

Some time ago, I did some research. I have some good terms and conditions, a privacy policy and refund policy. These documents I can use and that will help my clients to understand what is and what is not possible with my hair. This is so much better for the relationship with your client. You do not want to explain to a disappointed and emotional client you do not accept the return of hair that has been dyed. For example.

Your product Images

Collect the images of your products. You can ask the wholesaler if you can use their pictures if needed. Make sure to rename the images with the name of your business and the type of hair. That will help you if people search on the internet for images. They will see your store’s name. By the way, it feels so good to upload the hair you are going to sell in the website. Almost the same as putting the hair on the shelves in your in store or salon. Because of this positive vibe I prefer not to include the images in the upload file. But it is possible if you like.

Do you know, thanks to all preparation already done, to create a webstore is not that much work anymore. You can soon start selling hair on Shopify.
The products are already in the webstore, so all I had to do is to give the store the colors of my logo. I added some nice images that tell the story about my store, but even more important about the people I want to help finding the best hair. Now I noticed one of the happy clients had the same love for pink as I did. She had pink earrings, was wearing a pink shirt and had pink lipstick. How amazing that was. The ideal client template worked! As it always does.

One of the last steps was to add the pages with the legal stuff, the hair care, FAQ and about us page. I only had to do a copy paste. The text was already prepared, so I did not have to type anything. But to pimp up these boring pages, I added an image. This shows the visitor in one second where the page is about. By the way, I managed to create an accordion layout for my FAQ. The one where you only see the header first, and when you click the explanation will show. That really made the Shopify hair webstore look professional!
