Today I want to help you to find out the kind of hair extensions your target clients are looking for. There is clear evidence that focus is key to be successful. So, do not try to offer everything to everybody. Better to select the extensions your potential clients are looking for. This will keep your stock limited and your expertise and thus earnings high!

The best way to do so is to combine two tools. The information available in your analytical tools and a professional client survey. Do not forget to make an ideal client profile later, this will help you to focus your messages to your always willing to buy customers.

Today I´ll focus, yeah me too, on the Customer Survey. Especially how to get accurate answers from the respondents.

Before I start with the tips. Realize that there will always be a small minority of people who will lie on the questions asked. Especially when the questions pertain to the three B’s that is showing what people are: Behavior, Beliefs or Belonging.

Of course, sometimes people will give inaccurate answers by accident. A lot of publications have noted that predicting future intentions can be quite difficult. Especially when done via survey. So, keep these in mind analyzing the outcome of your survey.

But there are ways to limit the negative impact of these two risks on the quality of the survey.
Here you will find 10 tips to improve the quality of your survey

1. KISS (Keep it short and simple)
First, we live in a time where most people share their messages in less than 140 characters. So, keep your questions short. Not in number of characters, but in wording to avoid losing the intent of your questions.
Example: Where do you buy your extensions?
2. Ask only questions that relating to what you want to learn from your clients
Every single question that you include should have a well-defined purpose. Otherwise, please skip it as it might put in risk the rest of the survey as people might lose their interest.
Example: Do you prefer synthetic or natural hair extensions
3. Construct smart open-ended questions
Multiple choice questions will only give you a selection of answers that you thought were possible. With open-ended questions you´ll get original answers back from your clients. This will give you insight in what your clients are thinking of. But do not overdo this; you will get more insight if you ask less!
Example: What do you like the most in buying through a web shop?
4. Ask only one question at a time
Of course, you want to know as much as possible. Now you have the rare opportunity to ask your clients questions about what they would like to buy. But limit your ambition and only ask one question per survey questions. The quality of the answers will be higher if people do not feel like they undergo an interrogation.
Example: Do you prefer synthetic or natural hair extensions

5. Make rating scales consistent
Certain common scales used for surveys can become cumbersome and confusing when the context begins to change. Keep the logic the same for all questions with a ranking. For example, if the response on a question can be between 1 and 5 and 1 is I strongly Disagree and 5 I Strongly agree. Make sure a next question keeps the 5 the most positive response.
6. Avoid leading questions
Questions that lead respondents toward a certain answer due bias in their phrasing are not useful for your surveys. Be neutral in the way you formulate the questions.
Example of leading question: Do you agree natural hair is the best
7. Make use of Yes/No
When you are asking a question that has a simple outcome, try to frame the question as a Yes/No option.
Example: Do you always buy the same brand (y/n) , or do you want free promotion for your hair brand (y/n). The last example was not for your clients, but for you of course ;-).
8. Get specific and avoid assumptions
When you create questions that assume a potential customer is knowledgeable about certain pieces of information, you’re likely going to run into problems.
One of the worst assumptions you can make is to assume people will answer with specific examples or reasoning. It’s better to just ask them to be specific.
Example of: What do you think of my Facebook page?
9. Timing of your client survey is important
Based upon surveys the highest survey open and click-through rates occurred on:
Monday,
Friday and
Sunday respectively.

This can differ for you situation. When for example you distribute your survey using an email tool like Aweber you will be able to see exactly what time and date are the best to contact your target group.

10. Reward your respondents
their time and feedback is valuable
Everybody´s time is scares and you can only spend a minute one tie, so make sure your respondents will be rewarded for the time they invest in your company. Give them something special that will remind them of your shop or brand. Make sure it will not be too expensive because you should keep money to invest in the hair extensions your clients told they are looking for!
Good luck in finding out what kind of hair extensions you should buy, but make sure to repeat this survey every year. This will help you to stay ahead of the competition who is still guessing what their clients want and spending all their money on buying hair nobody wants to buy!

If you don’t understand your clients, you will never sell hair!
